Photos Of The Oil and Gas  and Alternative Energy Industries

This site features photos of the energy industry, which includes oil and gas, wind power, solar, nuclear and biofuels.

The modern energy industry provides us with a standard of living like no previous generation has ever enjoyed. Not many of us think of the hard working men and women in these industries when we fill our tanks or turn on our lights. We tend to see only the negative parts of oil and gas drilling, such as spills, or global warming, yet much of domestic drilling is being done for clean burning natural gas, which is our safest "bridge" to 100% renewable energy.

As for oil, most of our vehicles continue to be powered by gasoline and diesel. Every drop of oil that comes from domestic sources is one less that comes from a conflict plagued region, and thus domestic oil drilling, done responsibly, enhances our national security.

These are some of my recent  oilfield photos taken in Texas and New Mexico.

About the Photographer.

I've  spent over 25 years working  in the oil and gas industry from the desert southwest to the swamps of Louisiana and offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. I've  witnessed some spectacular sights including drilling rig blowouts, pipeline fires, amazing sunrises and sunsets from offshore oil platforms and more.

Now after many years of film photography a Canon 40D travels with me in my offshore bag. As an avid photographer and oilfield worker I am able to capture unique images that the public would never otherwise see of this dynamic and multi faceted industry.   More photos will be added to the site as I convert slides to digital images and upload new digital photos. A few of the energy industry images, such as oil well fire photos, on this site are not mine. They have been e-mailed to me over the years. If you wish to have your photo removed or have your name listed in the credits please contact me at the address below. Some of the photos on this site are available for sale in high resolution.  I have posted some articles for those considering a career in the oilfield. It is a financially rewarding career path, but one that is full of hardship and hazards.  You'll find a list of oil field slang and terms that will come in handy.

The years that I have spent in the oil and gas industry have given me many unforgettable experiences, both good and bad. If you are considering a career in the industry visit the "Oil Patch Bookstore" for some good  oilfield books  and books on the  oil and gas industry. The two books that  I recommend the most are The Nontechnical Guide To Petroleum Geology, Exploration, Drilling and Production   and A Primer Of Oilwell Drilling Edition 7 by Paul M. Bommer.  Both used by many colleges and technical schools as well as Oilfield Service companies in their training programs. I hope you enjoy the site and the oilfield photos.  Nolan Hart
