A Primer Of Oilwell Drilling by Ron Baker Is Sold Out But Used Copies Are Available. The Nontechnical Guide to Petroleum Geology, Exploration, Drilling and Production is an excellent book and I highly recommend it for those new to the oilfield and old hands as well. It covers a broad range of subjects yet is very in depth. The Non Technical Guide series, including Oil and Gas Production in Non Technical Language, are a great resource, even for professionals. . If you are looking for oil and gas drilling history books you will find "History of Oil Well Drilling" well worth the money. Paul Carter's "Don't tell Mom I Work On The Rigs..." is as funny to read as the full title of the book suggests. It is a good gift for that oilfield person in your life. Even if they have heard their share of tall tales before they will be amused by the ones in his book. A Primer of Oilwell Drilling is an excellent book and is often hard to find new but used copies are always coming up here. It is an excellent book for those new to the industry and a good gift to someone going to the oilfield for the first time. Books for oil and gas professionals, geoscientists, students and those interested in the industry. Even if you are not in the oil and gas business you will find some good reading here. Never before in the history of man has one product had such a massive impact on our lives. As it becomes more scarce the impact of that scarcity will be felt at all levels of society. There is much talk about the subject of Peak Oil recently and you will find books about Peak Oil here as well. Arm yourself with knowledge about offshore and arctic drilling with objectively written books about both subjects. My personal view of the "Peak Oil" situation is that there is an incredible amount of oil still remaining on the planet but that getting to it is now becoming so expensive that much of it will never be recovered. The "cheap" oil of Saudi Arabia is running out. Read Matt Simmon's "Twilight in The Desert", an exhaustively researched book by an industry expert and adviser to presidents. He describes the efforts of the Saudi Royal Family to hide the truth about the Saudi oilfield's great decline as well as other fields around the world that are in serious trouble, such as Mexico's Cantarell which is depleting at an alarming rate. You will find a good section of books in the oilfield bookstore dedicated to Hubberts Peak or "Peak Oil". For those considering a career in the petroleum industry the Nontechnical Guide Series are an excellent value to get you up to speed.
